Around 17 workers were killed, and several were injured in a horrific accident in Thane, Maharashtra. This happened when a girder launching machine collapsed into pieces during the construction of a government project, the third phase of the Samruddhi Expressway. The Accident In Maharashtra
This incident occurred near Shahpur in the Thane district late at night during the construction of the third phase of the Samruddhi Expressway. According to sources, at least 14 people were killed on the spot because of the incident. Whereas the other 3 died slowly after the incident occurred. Other injured workers were then rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. The bodies have been sent to Shahapur Government Hospital for autopsy. A rescue operation is still underway. Shahapur police further declared 17 staff members died, 3 were injured, and 3 were stuck in debris. Moreover, 5 staff members were safe without any injuries.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his condolences and announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs to the kins of the deceased. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said his condolences for the incident. He further announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs from PMNRF to the kin of the deceased. This horrific incident has completely shattered the hearts of workers’ families and communities.
