In this world, even for human beings especially to women there is no safety then how can we expect voiceless animals will have? It is so easy for some sort of people to kill humans and escape from punishment by using their influence or by giving bribe. The same is happening when they kill animals too.
Yes, I am taking about Ponnamma who is a resident of Jalahalli West in Bengaluru and wife of an ex-honorary Flight Lieutenant, killed eight 15-day old puppies against a boulder in front of their mother.
Except one, remaining seven puppies died on the spot the same day. The other one succumbed to injuries the next day.
Five days after the incident, Ammu still wandered around the site where her puppies are buried. The mother of the puppies Ammu also died after suffering canine distemper and mental trauma. After this shocking incident, local residents filed an FIR with the Peenya police.
"When we asked her how she could kill innocent puppies, and that she had no right to do that, she said she wanted to teach the mother a lesson so that she doesn't litter or come near her house again," an outraged resident tells, clearly unable to accept the logic.
Under various sections, ponnamma was charged and the cumulative fine came to Rs 1,000.
Under Section 429 IPC (mischief by killing or maiming cattle…), she paid Rs 700 and Rs 100 under section 93 (punishment for cruelty to animals) of the Karnataka Police Act and Rs 200 under section 11 (treating animals cruelly, including killing) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
In case of non-payment of fine, she has to undergo imprisonment up to 15 days. However, Ponnamma quietly paid the fine. She did not even hire a lawyer for the court case that was heard by the court of the 45th ACMM (additional chief metropolitan magistrate).
“Paying Rs 1,000 and being absolved of the crime is not correct. Proper justice has to be done for puppies and their mother Ammu. We want to appeal and this case should be a lesson to people who think that anything can be done to the voiceless. This case should set an example. Hence it will be appealed,” said Harish KB, CUPA (Compassion Unlimited Plus Action) cruelty inspector.
Animal activists said they will soon file an appeal.
“There are so many studies that show animal abuse is linked to human violence. Based on these studies, the US has made cruelty to animals a heinous crime. Unfortunately, we have not recognized it yet. We will file an appeal seeking justice for the puppies,” Shreya Paropkari, cruelty response manager, said Humane Society International India (HSI).
Ammu, the mother of puppies had to witness her eight new-born puppies being killed. Law may leave her but Karma punishes Ponnamma for sure. The curse of dog (Ammu) will haunt her.
Why there is no strict law? Our ancient India used to punish criminals very strictly. Now, where it all went? Clearly there is no fear of punishment in India.
