Professional belly dancer 31-year-old Ekaterina Andreeva, who goes by the name of Johara while on stage, was dancing for a nightclub audience in Giza, north-western Egypt. The crowd appears to be loving Ms. Andreeva’s moves as they danced along with her but Egyptian authorities were not so pleased with her act.
Egyptian prosecutor Hatim Fadl said: “Rules for the dance performance oblige the performer to wear underwear of any colour but beige.” A video taken by a member of the audience shows Ms Andreeva energetically dancing in a low-cut backless dress split up one side. But the footage was not taken lightly by police as they arrested her on suspicion of inciting young people to disobedience and immorality.
The belly dancer, who runs a dance studio in Moscow with her husband, has been released on bail of 5,000 EGP (204 GBP). It has been reported locally that Ms. Andreeva is temporarily banned from dancing while her case is reviewed.
However, the video has been removed, that attracted the attention of Egyptian law-enforcers, was filmed outside Egypt, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper said. It was noted that the woman was working in Egypt legally. Shortly after her detention, the woman was released on bail.
She has been released on a bail fee of just over £200. Local media report that the General Directorate of the Police of Tourism and Antiquities held that she was wearing a non-standard outfit to dance in and that she had “flaunted” her body. She had earlier been arrested for 2 years as well for her video. Shyma was sentenced to two years in prison in December over the release of a racy music video!
The video for Shyma’s song ‘I Have Issues’ showed Shyma dancing in clothes and in underwear before pouring milk over a banana and eating it, licking an apple and suggestively tasting the icing on a piece of chocolate cake.
