After the end of round 16, Quarterfinals for FIFA World Cup 2018 started. There were four matches in the Quarterfinals. The matches were Uruguay vs France, Brazil vs Belgium, Sweden vs England and Russia vs Croatia. Read on to know how the matches in the Quarterfinals went down.
Uruguay Vs France
The match took place at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. France was first to goal as Raphael Varane scored the first goal at the 40th minute, giving his team the lead over Uruguay. The score at halftime was 1 – 0 with France in the lead. Antoine Griezmann scored the second and the last goal of the game at the 61st minute giving France the victory with a 2 – 0 score.
Belgium Vs Brazil
The match took place at Kazan Arena. Belgium took the lead easily when Fernandinho mistakenly scored an own goal giving Belgium a goal. Following that, Kevin De Bruyne scored the second goal at the 31st minute, giving Belgium a 2 – 0 lead. The score was 2 – 0 at halftime with Belgium in the lead. After a tough fight by Brazil, Renato Augusto scored a goal at the 76th minute. Despite several efforts, neither teams could score a goal and Belgium won the match with a 2 – 1 score.
Sweden Vs England
The match took place at Samara Arena. England took the lead at the 30th minute when Harry Maguire scored the first goal of the match. The score at halftime was 1 – 0 with England in the lead. Following Harry’s goal, Dele Alli scored another one for England making it 2 – 0. Despite several efforts. Sweden didn’t score any goals. It was a clean win for England with a 2 – 0 score.
Russia Vs Croatia
The match took place at Fisht Stadium. Russia steered towards the lead with Denis Cheryshev’s goal at the 31st minute. Croatia soon fought back and leveled the score as 1 – 1 with Andrej Kramaric scoring a goal at the 39th minute. The score at halftime was 1 – 1. Croatia then took the lead at the 100th minute when Domagoj Vida scored one for the team. However, Russia leveled the score again with Mario Figueira Fernandes’s goal. It was a draw with a 2 – 2 score.
Thus, the penalty shoots started. Daler Kuzyayev, Sergei Ignashevich, Mario Figueira Fernandes, Alan Dzagoev and Fyodor Smolov took the shots for Russia. Mario and Fyodor missed their shots. Furthermore, For Croatia, Ivan Rakitic, Domagoj Vida, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Marcela Brozovic took the shots. Except for Mateo Kovacic, everyone scored. Thus, Croatia won the match with a score of 2 (4) – 2 (5).
