The match 2 of ICC Cricket World Cup was between power hitting West Indies and unpredictable Pakistan where Pakistan lost to West Indies by 7 wickets with 218 balls to spare. The match was played on one of the highest scoring cricket ground since past few years Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Jason Holder, the captain of the West Indies won the toss and decided to bowl first. During Pitch report by Rameez Raza, it was clear that there is nothing for the bowlers in this pitch. But Pakistan bowled out for just 105. Let us check the key moments of the match between West Indies and Pakistan.
1. Pakistan Batting Struggle
There was nothing gone right for Pakistan right from the start. First, they have lost the toss and send to bat first and then their batsmen disappointed their fans. The weakness of not playing bouncers properly hurt Pakistan. The total of five wickets of Pakistan was on bouncers. There was no partnership during the innings. You can understand from this point of view that their highest partnership was of 22 runs and that was for the last wicket.
2. West Indies Bowled Well
With nothing in the pitch for the bowlers, West Indies implemented their old strategies of the ’80s and 90’s and that is the bouncer. Andre Russell bowled well and picked up 2 key wickets of Fakar Zaman and Haris Sohail. Andre Russell bowled 3 overs and gave away just 4 runs and took 2 wickets.
Captain Jason Holder and Oshane Thomas then joined the party and picked up 3 and 4 wickets respectively and outplayed Pakistan.

3. West Indies Off To A Flyer
With not much target and keeping in mind about the long tournament, West Indies took care of the run-rate and started off aggressively with Universal Boss Chris Gayle struck two consecutive 6’s on Hasan Ali. Mohammed Amir took three wickets of Shai Hope, Darren Bravo and, Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle hit his half-century in 33 balls and soon departed to Mohammed Amir. But the target was too less to affect the West Indies. Nicholas Pooran scored quickfire 34 in 19 balls with two sixes as West Indies comfortably won the game by 7 wickets in just 13.4 overs with 218 balls to spare.
4. Oshane Thomas – Player Of The Match
With four wickets in 27 runs, Oshane Thomas became the player of the match. West Indies handled Pakistan one of their biggest defeats in the World Cup in terms of balls remaining.
Yesterday, during the first Match 1 of the World Cup, England defeated South Africa by 104 runs. Pakistan will play their next match against England at the same ground Nottingham on 3rd June, while West Indies will play their next against current champions Australia at Nottingham on 6th June.
