If rumors are to be believed, the kid’s skeletal remains, which were discovered lying down with a triangular padlock fastened to one of the feet, belong to a child between the ages of 5 and 7. The customs of the day stated that these padlocks were employed to keep the deceased in its burial.

The burial was found in Poland at a necropolis where hundreds of people had been cremated throughout the years. Padlocks were allegedly used to ensure the infant would never return to life. The ‘necropolis’ is Greek for ‘city of the dead’. Also, a ‘vampire’ woman cremated with a padlock fastened to her big toe was found last year.

The anti-vampiric burying procedure, which can be traced before the 14th century and was widely used throughout Christian Europe, has been linked by archaeologists to this deed. The archaeologists said, “Such practices originated in folk beliefs and are sometimes described as anti-vampiric.”

Archaeologist Dariusz Poliski of the University of Nicolaus Copernicus stated that the object positioned under the foot  “symbolizes the final moment of the life and is meant to protect against the coming back of the corpse. which was probably feared.”

When an individual was laid to rest face down. It was anticipated that the deceased could bite into the ground, not affect the living, according to records that were allegedly followed at the time, Poliski said.

According to reports, 30 of these interments have been found. Archaeologists think that in the area, those who were dreaded both in life and in death were also interred similarly.

Poliski continued by saying that, around that period, people used to do various things to defend themselves against those who were dead, including burying the dead face down, chopping off their heads or legs, burning them, and stomping on them with a stone.

Additionally, Poliski disclosed that he and his team of researchers had found about 100 such tombs in the cemetery. According to their records, mass fatalities were associated with vampire breakouts, a connection that defied logic.
