Constructed in the West Kameng district, the Bi-Lane Sela Tunnel holds the title of the world’s longest bi-lane tunnel. Perched at an altitude surpassing 13,000 feet, it is an engineering marvel. This tunnel guarantees all-weather connectivity between Assam and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. It adeptly overcomes the challenges presented by harsh and extreme weather conditions.

Excavated below the formidable Sela Pass on NH-13, the tunnel comprises two sections. Tunnel 1 is a 980-meter-long single-tube marvel, while Tunnel 2 is an impressive twin-tube structure exceeding 1.5 kilometers. Thanks to the Border Roads Organisation’s (BRO) meticulous execution under Project Vartak, commuters will now bypass the perilous snow-covered Sela top at 13,700 feet.
