Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the other seventy-two members of his new government took an oath of office. Since the Congress idol Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi is the first Prime Minister to serve three terms in office. Following a long 11-hour meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence, final choices on the new cabinet ministers were made.

Rashtrapati Bhawan, where President Droupadi Murmu bestowed the oath of office, had three layers of protection in place. Authorities added that because Delhi is still on high alert for the event, commandos from the NSG and SWAT sections of the Delhi Police were stationed around the venue and other key areas.

Moreover, for the next few days, the use of aerial platforms such as drones, paragliders, remotely piloted aircraft, and hot air balloons is prohibited in the national capital, which has been declared a no-fly zone by the police.

Cabinet Ministers Taking Oath

The new Cabinet constitutes 30 Cabinet ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State.

The previous government’s Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh sworn in on Sunday. The Union Home Minister in Modi 2.0, Amit Shah was inducted into the new government. Further, Nitin Gadkari, who had the post of Union Minister of Road and Transport, was part of the Modi Government 3.0. JP Nadda, who is the BJP national chief, was the new entry to the newly formed NDA alliance. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has been appointed to the Cabinet berth. Nirmala Sitharamanwho had a Finance portfolio previously, was part of the Narendra Modi-led Cabinet. Dr S Jaishankar, who was the External Affairs Minister in Modi 2.0, was part of Modi 3.0.  Manohar Lal Khattar, who quit as Haryana Chief Minister in March, was given a Cabinet post in the newly formed coalition government.

Ministries Of State With Independent Charges

The new Minister of State (Independent Charge) was sworn in Rao Inderjit Singh, a six-term Member of Parliament. Additionally sworn in as the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) was Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh. Additionally sworn in as the new Minister of State (Independent Charge) was a Bikaner MP, Arjun Ram Meghwal. Further, Modi 3.0 included Prataprao Jadhav, a prominent member of the Shiv Sena belonging to the Eknath Shinde faction. Narendra Modi was re-elected as prime minister by the NDC, which also included other notable ministers like Jitin Prasada, Shripad Naik, Pankaj Chaudhary, Krishna Pal Gurjar, Ramdas Athawale, Nityanand Rai, Anupriya Patel, V Somanna, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, SP Singh Baghel, Shobha Karandlaje, Kirti Vardhan Singh, BL Verma, Shantanu Thakur, Kamlesh Paswan, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Ajay Tamta, Dr. L Murugan, Suresh Gopi, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Sanjay Seth, Ravneet Khadse, Bhagirath Choudhary, Satish Chandra Dubey, Durgadas Uikey, Sukanta Majumdar, and Savitri Thakur.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the BJP secured 240 seats, while the NDA secured 293 out of 543 seats. Despite capturing 240 seats, the BJP fell short of achieving a majority in the Lok Sabha on its own.
