Pinki Haryan was born into a poor family in Mcleodganj in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. She and her family lived in a slum in Charan Khud. She used to beg on the road and scavenge food from garbage bins to survive. While Pinki and her family struggled daily for survival on the streets, Lobsang Jamyang, who headed the Tong-Len Charitable Trust in Dharamshala, saw something special in her. In 2004, fate smiled upon young Pinki through a chance meeting with Lobsang Jamyang, a Tibetan Refugee Monk.

Later, he approached Pinki’s father Kashmiri Lal, and requested him to let Pinki pursue her education. The conversation wasn’t easy. Kashmiri Lal was well aware of the harsh reality of life. However, the continuous attempt of Lobsang Jamyang made him understand and he agreed upon it. He persuaded Kashmiri Lal to provide her a chance at education. He admitted her to Dayanand Public School Dharamshala. From this point, Pinki became one of the first children to be placed in the trust’s hostel for needy children as the start of her rather incredible metamorphosis. This opportunity was life-changing and Pinki once again proved that she is ready for every challenge. She didn’t just attend school, but she excelled. Her academic performance was beyond and this showed that circumstances don’t define potential.

With her hard work and determination, she cleared her NEET exam, the most challenging medical entrance examination. Though her rank didn’t secure her seat in Government college, Pinki’s determination remained unshaken. She continued with her education and successfully became a doctor.
