Being on the verge of dissolution in the late 90s, Siddhartha Lal came as a savior, taking over the company as the CEO in 2000 at the age of 26. Transforming the struggling desi bullet into a giant in the field of motorcycles. The managing director of Eicher Motors, Siddhart Lal is popularly known for transforming the struggling Royal Enfield bikes. Being from a business family, his father is the two-wheeler tycoon, Vikram Lal.

Lal completed his schooling at Doon School, and he was a graduate in economics from St. Stephen’s College.  Holding a postgraduate diploma in mechanical engineering from Cranfield University and a master’s degree in Auto engineering from the University of Leeds in the UK, he is an intelligent man. Siddhart Lal was a determined man who never gave up and sought more time to transform the Royal Enfield bikes.

 

The Struggle

In early 2000 Royal Enfield was struggling to stay in the very competitive market. Among the many companies, Royal Enfield faced many problems. Many companies introduced fuel-efficient products, whereas Royal Enfield was lagging.

In 2000 Siddhart Lal took over his family business. In 2006, became the CEO and MD of Eicher Motors.  Seeing the struggles faced by the company, his father Vikram Lal suggested he should shut down the company, but he was very determined to transform it.  Siddhart was determined and he focused all his energy on reviving royal Enfield. He shut down 13 of the 15 family businesses. He helmed the revival of the Royal Enfield.

Very enthusiastic about bikes, he used to test the Enfield motorbikes himself personally to identify the key areas that were required for the further betterment of the bike. He trusted in the fan’s loyalty, and he always chose to put his attention on delivering quality products rather than following the competitive market patterns. With all the determination, efforts, and hard work, he made bullet motorcycles accessible in India by 2014, Royal Enfield accounted for 80% of Eicher Motors Ltd’s revenue.

Vikram Lal and his family have a net worth of $8.2 billion, or around ₹68,384 crore in Indian rupees, according to Forbes.
