Amazon Launches ‘Amazon Air’, Becomes India’s First E-Commerce Cargo Fleet

As per the reports of PTI, e-commerce giant Amazon has launched “Amazon air.” Consequently, it has become the first ever e-commerce company in the country to dedicate an air cargo network. Furthermore, it is safe to say that with this introduction, speedy delivery would be an easy go. The new aircraft were inducted yesterday (January 23, 2023) in Hyderabad by the Minister of Industries of Telangana Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao. Amazon Air was launched near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad by the Minister of Industries of Telangana Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao. Plenty of Amazon’s senior persons were present there.

What is noteworthy is that this cargo network will utilize the cargo capacity of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Quikjet Cargo Airlines. Consequently, each aircraft will ship thousands of packages daily and fly across four major cities of the country. Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai are to name them.

Sarah Rhoads, Vice President, Amazon Global Air, said, as we quote,

“We’re thrilled to launch Amazon Air in India to ensure we can provide our growing customer base with great selection, low prices, and faster deliveries.”

This reasserts Amazon’s commitment to invest in India’s logistical infrastructure, newer opportunities, and more jobs.

Furthermore, Akhil Saxena, Vice President – Customer Fulfilment (APAC, MENA & LATAM) and WW Customer Service, Amazon, also gave his insights. He said, as we quote,

“Hyderabad has emerged as a major hub for e-commerce distribution with its strategic geographic location, improved domestic air network, and the increasing popularity of e-commerce in the country.”

KT Rama Rao stated,

“Telangana offers a conducive environment for the development of multi-modal connectivity and I take great pride in the fact that Hyderabad has emerged as a major hub for e-commerce distribution and supply chain activities. We have been working towards strengthening the state’s air cargo infrastructure, and we welcome the launch of Amazon Air, which will further assist in making Hyderabad a cargo hub for the country and will create additional employment opportunities in the state.”

 

It Will Support 1 Million+ Sellers In India

More than a million Indian sellers will avail the benefits of this cargo fleet. Therefore, as a result, it will enable the growth of ancillary businesses such as transportation and packaging. Akhil Saxena highlights how it is a huge step forward for the aviation industry. He said,

“Amazon Air comes to India at an important time. Over the last few years, we have taken many positive steps to build our fulfillment, transportation, and logistics infrastructure in the country.”

What is noteworthy is that today, Amazon India has fulfillment centers across 15 states. As a result, it provides 43 million cubic feet of storage space for the seller’s inventory. Interestingly, with customers, over 97% of pin codes now receive their packages within two days of placing an order.

Amazon Air has a cargo network of 110 aircraft across 70 destinations worldwide. Furthermore, now, India has become the third market in the world, after the United States and Europe, that has this service. It would be worthwhile to see how it works out in our nation.
