Some instances in life make us believe in the possibilities of miracles and rebirth. Such is this one life-changing incident from Amitabh Bachchan’s life as recounted by the nurses and doctors of a city hospital. Read on to find out about Megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s rebirth.
Amitabh Bachchan’s Rebirth
August 2 is a very special day for those who work and practice at St. Philomena’s Hospital on Mother Theresa Road. 34 years ago, on August the second, internationally acclaimed star Amitabh Bachchan regained consciousness in this hospital. He was in for an emergency surgery. He had a severe abdominal injury. This occurred during the filming of his movie ‘Coolie’ in Bengaluru. The shoot was happening in Bangalore University and the crew with Big B had been filming a fight scene with his co-star Puneet Issar.
During the fight scene was when the mishap happened. Bachchan was supposed to jump and land on a table. But accidentally, due to a mistimed jump, he hit the corner of the table.
In The Doctor’s Words
“It’s hard to believe that three decades ago Amitabh Bachchan was brought to our hospital and our seniors had done a successful surgery on him. He was rushed to the hospital with a blunt injury in his abdomen; there was a rupture in his intestine and intestinal fluid had spilled out. Mr. Bachchan was admitted here for two to three days and was under the care of our nurses and doctors. Today, all of them have retired and some of them have even passed away. We are proud that a Bengaluru hospital conducted a life-saving surgery on the legend,” says Dr. Prasad, medical director of the hospital.
Dr. Prasad further added that besides doctors from the Hospital, the team had another physician. He was sent from Delhi by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. He too was present in the operation theatre of this hospital on that day.
Where Are They Now?
One of the doctors who operated on Big B was Dr. Joseph Anthony. It has been way too long since 1983, and now the doctor is bedridden. Another doctor from the team, Dr. HS Bhat, passed away just a few years ago.
Mr. Bachchan was flown to Mumbai. His treatment proceeded to continue at the Breach Candy Hospital. “I was a nursing trainee when Amitabh Bachchan was brought to our hospital,” said Julie. She is now 60 years old. “I took care of the legend for the few days he was there.” She has been bedridden as well due to poor health.
It is amazing to know that Big B has come a long way since this shocking incident. The movie he was then shooting was successfully released, but there was his fair share of movies that were not. Time flies by very fast. We are thankful for every individual involved in saving this megastar’s life! Not only does he troll on twitter, he also makes sure to remember his past incidents and stays humble. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments below.
