This is a case of non-human and horrifying case of animal cruelty. As per the reports three men hung a stray dog who was pregnant from a tree. Not only this, they even slashed her eyes with a machete because she chased and tried to devour their pet hens on the outskirts of Mohali.
The incident happened at Raipur Kalan village in Sohana. The mishappening came into light on Sunday but it had happened October 11. When asked said the canine broke into the house of Makhan Singh, Harmeet Singh and Dassa and tried to take away their hens. After then, all three of them chased and caught the dog. They not only thrashed her and but even hung her from a tree with sheer cruelty.
Then one of them appeared out the house with a machete. Two of them caught hold of the female dog and the third one wounded her eyes till she was completely blind. Then they then freed the hapless animal.
One of the dwellers of the area and live witness of the incident explained it like, “The incident took place on the morning of October 11. When I heard a dog’s sharp cries, I went out and saw Harmeet Singh, Makhan Singh and Dassa – three brothers residing in my neighborhood, assaulting the animal. I immediately rushed to the spot.”
Dr. Rakesh Sharma is treating the female dog at the SPCA Hospital and mentioned that, “The stray dog, which is about four and a half years old, has lost its left eye completely with the iris and eyeball hanging out. There is low vision in the other eye. We are giving it treatment so that it does not contract secondary bacterial or viral infection but the reason for its condition will be clear only after the medical report comes. Since it is pregnant, we can’t give a very high dose of medication. A surgery will be conducted on the canine after the delivery, which is expected in about five to six days.”
The incident has left us word-bound, but one thing is for sure that, this is high time that, we must consider stray animals’ safety and protect them from any kind of inhuman acts.
