Phone, FaceTime, And Messages
iOS 17 upgrades the communications experience across these apps. It introduces new features such as the ability to share your screen during a FaceTime call, new Memoji customization options, and more.
AirDrop
Sharing is even easier with AirDrop in iOS 17. You can now share content with people nearby, even if they don’t have an Apple device.
Intelligent Text Input
The operating system provides more intelligent input that improves the speed and accuracy of typing. It includes a new QuickPath keyboard that lets you swipe to type and a new context-sensitive predictive text feature.
Journal
iOS 17 introduces a new app called Journal, which makes it easy for people to practice gratitude. You can create entries with text, photos, and videos; the app will remind you to write in it daily.
StandBy
StandBy is a new way to view glanceable information when your iPhone is set down and charging. It displays a clock, weather, and other information in full-screen mode.
Maps
With iOS 17, you’ll be able to download a map for a specific area, access turn-by-turn navigation, see estimated times of arrival, and more.
Compatibility
iOS 17 is compatible with iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), and iPhones released after that. The new iOS supports iPhones with the A12 Bionic chip or a newer version. This means that the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, all of which were released in 2017, will not be eligible for the update this year.
