On Thursday morning, an Army chopper crashed near Machhna village in Marwah tehsil in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The crash took place at around 9:45 AM in a forested area in the Kishtwar district. The region has witnessed heavy rain for three to four days.

Kishtwar is a district located in the eastern part of Jammu and Kashmir. It is surrounded by the Doda district in the north, Himachal Pradesh in the southeast, and Anantnag and Ramban districts in the west. The main occupation of the region is agriculture which runs the district’s economy. It is popularly known for producing saffron, apples, and other horticultural crops. It is also home to small-scale handicraft industries. The district has a rich culture and several historical monuments like the Chandi Mata Temple and the Sarthal Mata Temple.

Reports suggest that three people were on board when the incident occurred. One, unfortunately, lost his life due to the crash, while the pilot and co-pilot are heavily injured and being treated.

Army officials said, “An Army ALH Dhruv Helicopter crashed near Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir. Pilots have suffered injuries but are safe. Further details are awaited.”

The rescue teams immediately arrived at the site, said Kishtwar SSP Khalil Poswal.

The spokesperson from the defense department claims that a search operation has been initiated, and further details are awaited.

The remains of the chopper, which the river had carried away, were found in the Marusudar River within the Marwah-Dachhan area of the Kishtwar district.

In early March, an Indian Army Aviation Cheetah helicopter also crashed in the Mandala Hills area of Arunachal Pradesh. This incident killed two pilots.

According to officials, “the Cheetah helicopter on an operational sortie when it lost contact with the Air Traffic Controller. “
