The Hybrid Model will be used for the 2023 Asia Cup, and Sri Lanka was a potential alternate host in addition to Pakistan. ACC resorted to the hybrid model because BCCI was not given permission to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the event. UAE was another competitor. However, Sri Lanka ultimately received the chance.

According to a report in Indian Express, Sri Lanka Cricket recommended Dambulla as the location for most matches due to its dry climate. Colombo was left as the only choice when participating teams and broadcasters declined to go to Pallekele and Dambulla. However, due to the monsoon season, rain has been falling in Pallekele and Colombo over the past few days.

Moving To Pallekele

Although the first game at the site isn’t until September 9, the ACC is considering moving the tournament to Pallekele. However, there is also a chance of inclement weather at that location. Over the next day or two, ACC will likely decide to change the venue for Super 4.

Earlier on Saturday, after the match between India and Pakistan in Kandy was canceled due to rain. The Men in Blue were dismissed for 266 runs in 48.5 overs. Former PCB chief Najam Sethi exposed ACC by claiming that the option of using the UAE as a backup venue was abandoned despite repeated concerns being voiced about the weather in Sri Lanka during September.

While two matches in Sri Lanka experienced one rain interruption, and the other was called off after just one inning, two games in Pakistan saw no rain interruptions. Sri Lanka and Pakistan are jointly hosting the tournament.
