Ten states have submitted recommendations to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to rename twenty-two airports located in various locations throughout the nation. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol stated the ministry received proposals for renaming 22 airports from ten state governments in a written response to the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

In response, Mohol stated that although airports are usually referred to by the name of the city in which they are situated, the Center is required to take into account any specific names that a state government suggests and that resolution is subsequently approved by the relevant state Assembly.
