Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia agreed to a narco-analysis test on Monday in order to determine the veracity of wrestlers’ sexual harassment claims against the former WFI president. Read on to learn more.
Test To Be Performed Under Supreme Court Supervision
As the movement against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh continues, wrestlers announced on May 22 that they were willing to submit to a narcotics test under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
The wrestlers demanded that the test be performed on both the wrestlers and Mr. Singh. There is also a demand that the test be conducted in front of the Supreme Court and broadcast on television.
WFI Chief’s Stance
In a Facebook post on Sunday, the WFI chief stated that he is prepared to show up for a polygraph or narco-analysis test to demonstrate that he is not guilty.
Mr. Singh has been accused of sexual harassment, and on Sunday, he said he would take a polygraph test if the wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia are subjected to one. He wrote,
“I am ready to undergo narco test, polygraph test or lie detector test, but my condition is that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia should also undergo these tests with me. If both the wrestlers agree to undergo it, call a press conference and make an announcement. I promise them that I am ready for the test.”
Bajrang Punia’s Response
Bajrang replied,
“We are ready to face Narco Test, but we would also want him (Brij Bhushan) to also face the Test under Supreme Court’s supervision and with live streaming on national television.”
“We would like to see what questions are being asked. He has asked for the Narco Test of Vinesh and myself. I am saying why only two of us but also all those girls who have filed complaints should also undergo Narco Test,” said Bajrang, who was protesting alongside Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat at Jantar Mantar.
“He’s running away from the law and is misguiding the public; he shouldn’t be made a star; he has committed a crime,” Mr. Punia exclaimed at Jantar Mantar as the protesters persisted.
Vinesh Phogat And Sakshi Malik’s Opinion
Vinesh Phogat, who has been at the center of the wrestlers’ protest, said.
“Everybody, not just me, all the girls who complained are ready to undergo the narco test, but it should be made live. One should know what our country’s girls have to go through.”
According to Vinesh, the entire nation ought to be aware of the type of unfairness they have been subjected to for many years. Vinesh continued.
The whole country should know what kind of atrocities and injustice we faced. He is not a star but a sexual harassment accused so please treat him accordingly.”
Another round of the protesting wrestlers’ candlelight walk from Jantar Mantar to India Gate will take place. Sakshi stated,
“As you are aware, our protest turns one month; on May 23, we would take out a candle march at India Gate. We must remind people that ours is a peaceful protest, and anyone trying to disrupt the peace with provocative speeches or any kind of trouble would be himself responsible for consequences, and we don’t take any responsibility.”
Bajrang Punia appeals for the candle march.
