Balasaheb Dhanorkar, the Congress Member of Parliament from Chandrapur, died in Medanta Hospital, Delhi. The news was confirmed by Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe. Balu Dhanorkar, as he was affectionately known, died at the age of 48 years old.
He leaves behind his wife, Pratibha Dhanorkar, an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly), and their two boys.
Dhanorkar began his political career with the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Balasaheb Thackeray in the Chandrapur district, and he went on to win the assembly election in 2014. His ambitions, however, extended to contesting the Lok Sabha election from the Chandrapur constituency, a seat historically held by the BJP’s Hansraj Ahir.
Dhanorkar chose to change allegiances and join the Congress party in order to accomplish what he wanted. He defeated Ahir in a tough election campaign, emerging victorious. Concurrently, his wife was successful in the political sphere, winning the Warora-Bhadrawati assembly seat in the 2019 elections.
How Did Balu Dhanorkar Die?
Balu Dhanorkar was taken to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, near Delhi, after experiencing problems while undergoing kidney stone treatment at a Nagpur hospital on May 26. Balasaheb Thorat, a prominent Congress leader, revealed these events. He shared, “He (Balu Dhanorkar) was admitted to a Nagpur-based hospital last week for the treatment of kidney stones. He was later shifted to New Delhi.”
Unfortunately, Dhanorkar’s health deteriorated swiftly, and his death came as a surprise to many. Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan expressed shock, saying the unexpected illness, critical condition, and death within two days were inconceivable and frightening.
This is the family’s second bereavement in just three days. Balu Dhanorkar’s father, Narayan Dhanorkar, died the previous Saturday in Nagpur after a protracted illness. Due to his health issues, the Congress MP could not attend his father’s funeral rites. Therefore, adding to the family’s emotional weight during this difficult time.
To conclude, the Dhanorkar family has suffered a significant loss due to the deaths of both Balu Dhanorkar and his father. Moreover, Balu Dhanorkar’s sudden death has left a gap in the political landscape.
