Water Problem In Bengaluru
As the city’s water problem deepened, many technology workers were leaving Bengaluru for their hometowns or temporarily leaving the city. Meanwhile, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar claimed that the BJP was playing politics with the city’s water scarcity and asserted that there is no water shortage in Bengaluru.
Challenges In Ayyappa Nagar, Bengaluru
Due to the severe water issue, many IT workers from large international firms have fled to Mysuru. Sumantha, an employee in Ayyappa Nagar, KR Puram, spoke to Deccan Herald about how difficult it was for him and his wife to get the most essential supplies because of the severe water shortage in their apartment complex. He claimed that despite having to relocate temporarily due to the city’s water issue, he still pays a costly monthly rent of Rs 25,000 for an apartment. His employer’s policy of not allowing work-from-home options further compounded his situation.
Struggles Of Relocated IT Workforce
Another IT worker, Anita Srinivas, said she chose to relocate to Mumbai, where she has a second home, as a better long-term answer. Meanwhile, DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, unleashed a vicious attack on the BJP, claiming that it was playing politics over Bengaluru’s water scarcity. “Let them do what they want. First, let them approach the central government and ask them to give permission to Mahadayi and Mekedaatu projects,” the Deputy Chief Minister stated, referring to the BJP’s planned demonstration against the state administration tomorrow.
“Water shortage is not a problem in Bengaluru; the BJP is the cause of the shortage. We are giving Tamil Nadu what they have rightfully requested.” Our goal is to supply water to Bengaluru,” the Deputy Chief Minister continued. He said that there weren’t nearly 7,000 borewells in the city and that attempts were being made to fix the problem.
