Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, has become the first city in India to vaccinate 100% of its population against COVID-19. In addition, the first dose of COVID vaccinations was given to around one lakh migrant laborers in Odisha’s capital city.
With the second wave of the COVID-19 showing no signs of abating, vaccination is our best option. Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V are the three vaccines that have been licensed for usage in India. In addition, getting vaccinated can reduce the likelihood of hospitalization and the need for oxygen supplementation, allowing for a faster recovery at home.
A vaccinated person may produce antibodies that neutralize the virus and interrupt the transmission chain. Once a sufficient population has been vaccinated and has circulating antibodies for the disease, herd immunity develops. Anshuman Rath, South-east Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, said,
“100 percent of the population in Bhubaneswar have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Along with this, one lakh migrant workers in the city have been administered the first jab.”
He continued,
“The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation set a goal of immunizing cent percent of its population by July 31. During this time, we have administered the second jab to a total of 9,07,000 people above 18 years of age, which includes around 31,000 health workers, 33,000 frontline workers, 5,17,000 people between 18-45, and 3,20,000 above 45. As per reports, around 18,35,000 doses of COVID vaccine have been given till July 30.”
Talking about the vaccination for pregnant women, he added,
“Pregnant women are getting their first dose at vaccination centers. BMC is running 55 vaccination centers, which includes 30 primary health and community centers, 15 mobilized centers, and more than ten drive-in vaccination centers across Bhubaneswar. I thank the people of Bhubaneswar for supporting BMC in achieving the target for the COVID-19 vaccination. All the micro-planning was given by the BMC due to which Bhubaneswar has become the city which has covered 100 percent COVID-19 vaccination.”

With the hard work of the civic body officials and the cooperation of the local people, Bhubaneswar has become the first city in the country to immunize 100 percent of its population.
