Every year billions of animals are abused and killed for their skins to make leather products. To meet the demands of leather, billions of animals are tortured for fashion and lifestyle. Nowadays many people are taking initiatives against cruelty on animals. Recently Bollywood actress Sunny Leone announced that she will never use any products that are made up of leather and she is also associated with PETA. Even in western countries, people are promoting vegan to stop violence against animals. One of the most amazing initiatives and innovative steps towards animal safety have taken by two Mexican entrepreneurs Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez. They brought up with an alternative and launched Cactus Leather.

It is the first organic leather made out of the cactus plant also known as Desserto. There are many brands on the market that are making vegan leather products and are animal-free. But most of them use plastic driven materials. But Desserto has come up with the nopal cactus leaves and this has the potential to rule the vegan leather industry.

Desserto is the vegan leather made from the nopal, a cactus. This organic leather is the best alternative to animal leather and it will save the life of at least 1 billion animals every year. Desserto is also partially biodegradable and nearly the same price as the animal leather.

This Cactus Leather was first debuted at International Leather Fair Lineapelle 2019 in Milan, Italy from Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez created by their company Adriano Di Marti. This Cactus Leather provides the perfect balance between sustainability and performance. Desserto has a high resistance and durability of a minimum of 10 years. Compared to animal leather, Cactus leather also has competitive features like elasticity.

According to Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, the cactus plant does not need any water to grow and there is plenty of cactus available in Mexico. They further added that their company is already working on big projects with major groups from various industries and we already have a reaction capacity to make them come to fruition.

How This Idea Came?

Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez came up with the idea after working in the fashion and furniture automotive industries. There, they identified that environmental pollution is a serious problem. They decided to leave their job and started with Adriano Di Marti to focus on creating Desserto, a nopal vegan leather.
