After a long break, Indian IT companies are getting back to college campus for recruitment drives. It indicates industry is beginning to recover. There is an increasing demand for specialized tech talent. Unlike in the past years, IT companies are no longer just hiring many entry-level engineers. They are now looking for skilled programmers and digital specialists. These roles include cloud computing, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). Salaries for these specialized jobs will range from Rs. 6 lakhs to Rs. 9 lakhs. This is much more than the pay for entry-level positions.
Campus Recruitment Plans
Major IT companies such as IBM, Infosys, TCS, and LTIMindtree have visited campuses for placements that started in July. TCS plans to hire 40,000 fresh graduates. Infosys is aiming to recruit between 15,000 and 20,000 new graduates through campus and off-campus drives. Wipro is also returning for campus hiring after a break of four quarters. Wipro HR head, Saurabh Govil, said,
“After a break of one year, we will return with plans to hire 10,000 to 12,000 freshmen this financial year. Additionally, we will look at off-campus hiring to onboard the same number for next year as well.”
Now the selection process for campus placements has become stricter. It includes higher cut-off scores and focuses on specialized skills and certifications. Shailendra Vidhate is a training and placement officer at NMIMS Group Engineering College. He said, ‘The cut-off to sit for the placement season has risen to 70% from 60% last year.’
Hiring Process
Companies are looking beyond the traditional coding tests for checking the ability of candidates. They are changing their methods. They are now looking at the social media profile and certifications. This will give them a complete view of a person’s skills and background.
Campus recruitment is back. There is a strong focus on high-demand skills. This is good news for fresh engineering graduates. Those with specialized knowledge in cloud, data, and AI are especially in demand.
