CBFC recently updated the film certification system with five new categories. These guidelines will help parents with film content that is suitable for their child. The Central Board of Film Certification has taken a step by keeping societal values and norms in mind. The new categories introduced by CBFC are ‘U’, ‘UA 7+’, ‘UA 13+’, ‘UA 16+’, and ‘A’. Now, parents will be more informed about their viewing choices.
CBFC Five New Categories
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has updated the following classification of films, which are divided into different categories. The categories are as follows:
Rating | Description |
---|---|
U (Unrestricted) | Suitable for all age groups |
UA 7+ | Unrestricted but with caution for children below 7 years old |
UA 13+ | Unrestricted but with caution for children below 13 years old |
UA 16+ | Unrestricted but with caution for children below 16 years old |
A (Adults) | Restricted to individuals aged 18 and above |
The new system has been introduced to help parents be more informed about what their children should watch. CBFC has taken this step by considering various factors, such as violence, intimacy, horror, and mature themes. Parents here are encouraged to review the movie and consider their child’s temperament before allowing them to watch it.
CBFC board members revealed that the updated certification system has been developed for several years to improve how films are categorized. This new structure will help the parents as well. Hence, the films are no longer grouped under a broad category. According to the reports, multiple things are considered to finalize the categories. Hence, CBFC has introduced a new category.
Experts View On CBFC Decision
Some trade analysts say, “CBFC had introduced the categories to safeguard the societal values. The step is considered to be positive for both parents and children. This was a much-needed improvement that every parent wanted. The decision will not only help the parent to keep the decision informed but avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. The move taken by CBFC is a thoughtful consideration for both society and parents.”
