After a tragic day at Maha Kumbh, where 30 people died and 60 sustained injuries at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, the government has introduced strict guidelines for visitors to prevent further incidents, the administration has made significant changes for the visitors.

The incident happened on Wednesday as millions of pilgrims gathered to take a holy dip during Mauni Amavasya, one of the most important days of the Kumbh Mela.

According to the Deputy Inspector General of Maha Kumbh, Vaibhav Krishna, the stampede was caused by pilgrims pushing against barricades in a rush to reach the sacred water.

Here are some changes that have been made, considering the incidents that happened on Wednesday.

1. No Vehicle Zone: Entry on all types of vehicles is now prohibited at the Maha Kumbh fair area.

2. VVIP Passes Cancelled: No special VVIP passes will be considered, eliminating any exceptions.

3. One-Way Route: A one-way traffic system has been introduced to better manage the flow of devotees and ensure their safety.

4. Vehicle Entry Restricted: To reduce congestion, vehicles coming from nearby districts are being halted at the district borders of Prayagraj.

5. Strict Restrictions Until February 4: Strict restrictions are in place until February 4, with a complete ban on the entry of four-wheelers into the city to maintain order.

IAS officials Ashish Goyal and Bhanu Goswami received immediate instruction to go to Prayagraj for crowd management enhancement. Vijay Kiran received support from these two officials throughout managing the 2019 Ardh Kumbh. The District Magistrate, Bhanu Goswami, served as Vice Chairman of the Kumbh Mela Authority, and Ashish Goyal managed Allahabad as Commissioner during that period.

After the deadly Maha Kumbh Mela stampede in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath imposed various measures to improve crowd security and transport organization capabilities. Better crowd control and devotee safety are achievable by declaring all areas inside the fair a No-Vehicle Zone.

To support the devotees’ movement, VVIP passes have been canceled, and access roads have been transformed into directional routes. Late at night, through video conference, Chief Minister Adityanath connected with senior police officers and district officials who represented Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mirzapur, Basti, Jaunpur, and Rae Bareli. The implemented safety measures exist to prevent additional incidents while protecting everyone at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

In response to the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the state government has implemented several measures to enhance crowd management and ensure the safety of devotees.

Holding areas have been established at border points to manage crowd pressure within the fair area. Devotees will be allowed to proceed only when the crowd density decreases, ensuring a safer environment. These holding areas are equipped with adequate arrangements for food, drinking water, and uninterrupted electricity supply to meet the needs of the pilgrims.

Yogi Adiyanath has announced that the three-member judicial panel will investigate the incident further. The panel comprises Justice Harsh Kumar, former Director General VK Gupta, and retired IAS officer VK Singh.  Now, the panel of members will look after the safety measures to prevent additional incidents while protecting everyone at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

Additionally, the Chief Minister has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and announced financial assistance of ₹25 lakh for each family.
