On Sunday, The Haryana government announced that 100 wrestling mats will be provided to ‘akhadas’ in the state following the success of Aamir Khan’s recent film Dangal which is based on wrestling.
The movie displays the arduous struggles of sports people, especially wrestlers. A wrestler father trains his daughters into international champions.
After the release of the movie, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who met wrestling champions Geeta and Babita Phogat and their coach-father Mahavir Singh Phogat, on whose lives film Dangal is based, to honour them.
He also mentioned that his government has set up a committee led by the Chief Secretary to expedite the process of giving employment to the state’s extraordinary sportspersons.
He promptly mentioned that based on the recommendations of this committee, new policies for sportspersons would be introduced. Geeta and Babita are excellent wrestlers who hail from Balali village in Charkhi Dadri district.
On this occasion, Khattar, also gave the first-ever “cashless Shagun” to Geeta Phogat who got married very recently.
