The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro train services will begin on all city lines at 5 am on August 15 to make it easier for people traveling to the Independence Day ceremony. Continue reading to learn about traffic restrictions, precautions for local travel, and more.

“Delhi Metro train services will begin at 5 am from all terminal stations on all lines. Up until 6 am, trains will run every 30 minutes on all lines,”  according to the DMRC. They also stated that after that time, they would resume their regular timetable for the remainder of the day.

 

Unavailability Of Parking At The Metro Stations

Due to security precautions, the parking lots at Delhi Metro stations won’t be open to the public.

“Parking facilities will NOT BE AVAILABLE at stations from 6 am on August 14, 2023, until 2 pm on August 15, 2023, due to security measures put in place for the occasion.” However, train services will continue as usual,” the DMRC noted.

 

Warnings By Delhi Metro Rail Corp.

A warning was also issued by the Delhi Traffic Police for yesterday, August 13, in light of the Independence Day Full Dress Rehearsal. On Sunday, from 4 am to 11 am, commuters were requested to avoid specific highways and use alternate routes.

DMRC has urged passengers to utilize Gate No. 4 for entry and departure due to the closure of Gate No. 3 at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station beginning on August 12 for civil rehabilitation work.

 

Traffic Prohibitions In The Surrounding Area Of Red Fort

The following roads will be off-limits to general transportation:

  • Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg
  •  Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT
  • Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP flyover, i.e., Salimgarh bypass
  • and Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail.
  • Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail
  • SP Mukherjee Marg from HC Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk
  • Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort will also be closed.

The Traffic Police has also provided a list of routes to avoid and tips on how to get to critical locations despite the road closures.

Vehicles without parking labels should avoid the C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A Point Tikal Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT via Salimarbagh Bypass.
