Twitter may soon get a new logo. Owner, Elon Musk, announced his intention to alter Twitter’s logo through a tweet. Stating, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” Furthermore, the owner added, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make it go live worldwide tomorrow.”, in a post on the site at 12:06 a.m. ET. Musk’s post, as always, has a mixed reaction from the users. Continue reading to know more about the buzz.
Twitter Under Musk
Under Elon Musk’s tumultuous tenure, the company has changed its business name to X Crop since he bought Twitter in October. Musk even posted an image of a flickering ‘X.’ Additionally, later in a Twitter space audio chat replied ‘yes’ when asked if the logo would change. This reflects the billionaire’s vision to create a super app like China’s WeChat. Additionally, the bird was temporarily replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog in April this year. This helped in driving a surge in the meme coin’s market value. On the other hand, twitter’s website says its logo, depicting a blue bird (Larry T bird), is its most recognizable asset.

Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X pic.twitter.com/nwB2tEfLr8

Blue Bird Under Criticism
The Bluebird app has also faced a lot of criticism early this year. Users and marketing professionals were unhappy when Musk announced that Twitter would limit how many tweets various accounts can read daily. Consequently, the daily limits helped in the growth of a rival service, threads (meta-owned), which crossed 100 million sign-ups within 5 days of launch. App’s most recent controversy was a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. The lawsuit claimed that the company owed former employees about $500 million in severance pay.
Mixed Reactions
Many Twitter users even ‘warned’ Elon Musk not to change the popular blue bird logo. Tweets state that the change in the logo will kill its goodwill and reduce its popularity. On the other, users call Musk’s decision bold and refreshing. Many even say the change should have been done long ago.

Brilliant. Take a company name like Twitter with brand recognition which also has a verb to describe posting a message (a Tweet), and replace it with an ambiguous letter of the alphabet with no obvious verb. Great idea.
