Gone are those days where people used SMS and recharged their mobiles with SMS balance. With apps like Whatsapp, the new chapter is created in chatting world.
In India itself, there are over 200 million WhatsApp users. Social media has given freedom of expression to every individual. At the same time it is the responsibility of every user to take care that it’s not misused.
We often come across so many images, videos and text messages saying, “share this to 10 people or else you will see bad today” or creating 200 notes in photoshop and sharing on social media etc.
But now, if you post any fake news or rumours in Whatsapp or Facebook groups, it will land group admin in jail. So, better think twice before becoming administrator of a group on WhatsApp or Facebook.
District Magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police Nitin Tiwari issued a joint order that any factually incorrect, rumour or misleading information on a social media group could result in an FIR against the group administrator.
"There are several groups on social media which are named on news groups and also groups with other names which are propagating news and information which is not authentic. These are being forwarded without cross checking," it said.
It is also said that any post which hurts religious sentiments are forwarded to any other group or person, then legal action will be taken. Under cyber crime law, Information Technology Act and IPC will be filed in case of violation of these guidelines.
It is the responsibility of group admin to ensure that no false news is circulated so its better unknown persons are not included in your group.
