The authorities were battling fires across the country amid a return of heatwave temperatures when this incident took place. Furthermore, the country’s temperature has been pushed over 40 degrees all across. This hike in temperature is a major cause of wildfires across the country. Many fighter planes and helicopters are used to drop water to control wildfires. The airforce said that the pilots were aged 34 and 27, and none of them survived the crash.
The Authorities Take
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis canceled a pre-planned visit to Cyprus for Wednesday and further called for a three-day mourning period for the Greek armed forces. The fires have ragged of control for days, but it’s still unclear how these fires were started. Although tinder-dry conditions exist in the summer heat, a slight spark can trigger combustion if not quenched on time. Recently, many people have been fined and arrested for accidentally starting wildfires. An intense wildfire has also begun across Sicily, Algeria, and Tunisia because of intense European heatwaves.
All the residents and tourists had the evacuate the areas prone to wildfires. We are praying for all the wildfires going off and improvement in the climatic conditions of Greece. May all the survivors be safe and sound? Do you think the wildfires are caused by climate change? Are you an advocate for practicing sustainability?
