In a shocking news, Gautam Gambhir has decided to quit his captaincy of Delhi Daredevils in the 11th season of IPL 2018. Not only this, he also has decided to play the rest of the season for free. He will take no money and will continue to be a part of the team. He informed about his decision on Wednesday afternoon on Twitter. The reason for this is that he wasn’t able to handle the stress of the poor performance of Delhi Daredevils. In the ongoing IPL 2018, DD has lost 5 out of 6 matches they have played so far.
Completely His Decision
Gambhir was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders from last 7 years. He was sold to Delhi Daredevils in this season for Rs. 2.8 crores. He was then appointed the captain of the team. But due to the poor performance, he stepped down from the post. Gambhir in his tweet said that it was completely his decision and no one’s else. Check out his announcement here

Also, Gambhir believes that it was his responsibility to uplift the team as he was the captain. He told the media that he thinks he hasn’t contributed enough.
“It was my decision. I haven’t contributed enough to the team. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. Also, I feel it was the right time,”
The team’s official Twitter page also praised him in their tweet and announced the news.

Also, in a Press conference, Gambhir said that after the last game he decided it was the right decision. This season Gambhir was not in a good form. In five matches, he scored 85 runs with an average of 17 runs a match.
“It’s never too early and it’s never too late as well. I’ve always set very high standards for myself. But the bell started ringing after the last game,”
Who Will Lead After Gambhir?
Currently, Delhi Daredevils is at the bottom of the points table. Young batsman Shreyas Iyer will lead the team now with immediate effect. He is optimistic that the team will return and perform better. He also thanked the team management for considering him responsible for this position.
