Gautam Gambhir Is Back in Second Test Series Of India

 

So, it's time to cheer for Gambhir fans because after playing his previous international, Gautam Gambhir  is back in India, Test series. Because KL Rahul has injured his right hamstring, Gautam was summoned for the rest of the home tests against New Zealand in place of KL Rahul.

Gautam Gambhir was chosen after he performed really impressively in Duleep Trophy which is a domestic first-class tournament, which features the top players in the country.

His score was 356 runs in the competition from five innings at 71.20.

Praising him, a BCCI insider mentioned that Gambhir was too perfect to ignore in the current situation as per his form and experience.

"Gambhir is definitely under consideration because he has been doing extremely well, and even the team management feels that with 12-13 Test matches coming up there needs to be some experience [at the top]," the official mentioned.

Gautam had played his previous test in August 2014. The series was no less than a comeback for him, as he had dropped in 2012. During his drop period, he missed India’s Test in 2013.

And we all know that, prior to that, he owned India’s successful and stress-free opening partnership with Sehwag. The scoring record of the pair is 4412 runs, which is the most by opening pair for India in Test matches.

So, in all he owns, 4046 runs in 56 Tests at 42.58. This is teamed up with 9 centuries in between 2008 to 2012.

“I have always maintained one thing that the platform does not matter to me. My job is, whenever I play and for whichever team, my job is to score runs. I have played enough to know that I can't keep thinking about playing for India because that will be very selfish of me," Gautam Gambhir mentioned.
