Gautam Gambhir gave his reaction to Yuvraj Singh’s tweet on the pitch of the third Test match. The third Test match between India and England finished in less than two days. It was the second Pink ball test in India. The game was played in the newly renovated World’s largest stadium ‘Narendra Modi Stadium‘ in Ahmedabad. India won the match by 10 wickets.

Many cricket experts, former cricketers, and cricket fans raised the question on the pitch that it is not suitable for Test cricket. The ball was turning from ball 1 of the first session. For many people, it was a good wicket. Even India’s captain Virat Kohli in the after-match presentation told that the wicket was good; it is just the batsmen from both teams batted poorly. Yuvraj Singh, a former cricketer, raised a question on the pitch and wrote,

“Finished in 2 days Not sure if that’s good for test cricket! If @anilkumble1074 and @harbhajan_singh bowled on these kinds of wickets they would be sitting on a thousand and 800.”

The tweet left the cricketing world divided, with some people agree with him while some of them are not. Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian opener, weighed in on the topic and said he disagreed with Yuvraj Singh. However, he still believes that legendary spinner Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh would have ended their careers with a lot more wickets. He told,

“Yes, wickets are different today but DRS today plays a huge role. Had there been DRS when Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh was bowling, Kumble would have gone to 1000 wickets and Harbhajan would have got around 700 wickets because DRS plays a massive role especially in India where there are lot of inside edges, or bat pads and stuff.”

Gautam Gambhir also added that wickets suited for a spinner is not Ravichandran Ashwin’s fault. This will put additional pressure on Indian spinners to perform. Gautam added,

“From that point of view, I do agree with Yuvraj Singh, but from the point of view that had they played on these kinds of pitches, probably not. Because see, wickets have been the same for everyone. Ashwin doesn’t ask for these kinds of wickets, it’s the team management that asks for it. And when you prepare such wickets, Ashwin is under more pressure to deliver.”

The final Test match between India and England will start on March 4. If India loses this Test, they will be out of the World Test Championship final. However, a win or even a draw will take India through to the final at Lords starting June 18th.
