How Did The Hot Chocolate Spill?
On 11 August, the incident took place at an Air Vistara flight. The flight was moving from Delhi to Frankfurt. When a piping hot cup of hot chocolate got spilled upon the girl. The family alleges that neither the cabin crew apologized nor did they help with the medical aid.
Rachna Gupta, Mother of the victim Tara, claimed that they even missed their connecting flight to Lisbon. She said the paramedics provided immediate first-aid and arranged an ambulance for Tara. But they didn’t apologize or pay the medicine costs. Rachna Gupta posted on X.

She further added,
“After basic first aid on the flight, my daughter and I were left in an ambulance to fend for ourselves (pay for the ambulance / navigate the German medical emergency services) in an unfamiliar environment. Our luggage had to be taken out by friends of a friend who made 3 trips to the airport and spend 4-5 hours pillar to post.”

Gupta said she had to pay the ambulance bill of 503 euros, followed by the hospital bills. Further added, they missed their connecting flight, and the air didn’t make any effort to arrange an alternate flight for them.
Reply By Air Vistara
In a statement, Vistara has clarified that they have made necessary arrangements for the mother and daughter’s return to India. The airline posted,
“We confirm an unfortunate incident occurred onboard UK25 flying from Delhi to Frankfurt on 11 August 2023, where a child sustained injuries due to spillage of hot beverage on the body. Our cabin crew had served hot chocolate to the child on the request of the parents. However, the hot water spilled on her since the child was playful during the service.”
The airline further added,
“Our teams have been in touch with the customer ever since. We have already facilitated their early return to India, arranged for ground transportation in Frankfurt, met them at the airport extended extensive on-ground support. We have conveyed to the customer that all the medical expenses arising from the incident will be reimbursed by us.”
