How many times we see the advertisements promoting fairness cream, health drinks that claim the increase in height of children, antiageing remedies. We are sure manier times but do those things leave an impact? Well, we really do not know. In India, we see many advertisements related to fair skin that claims to make more beautiful and white within a particular amount of time.

But now India is soon to break the stereotypes and take the step in a positive direction. Now the government has proposed to amend the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. This bill will ban the ads of fairness cream and weight loss that promote false claims.

According to reports, the government has already prepared a draft. The draft states the fine of up to 50 lakh and the five-year imprisonment for advertising and promoting the products related to the improvement of height, skin fairness, deafness, hair loss, obesity, etc. The draft proposes,

Any audio or visual publicity, representation, endorsement or pronouncement made by means of light, sound, smoke, gas, print, electronic media, internet or website and includes any notice, circular, label, wrapper, invoice, banner, poster or such other documents: Provided that label or wrapper is an advertisement only if it contains any information or claim other than provided in the rules.

In the first offense, the fine of up to Rs 10 lakh and up to two years imprisonment. It may extend to 50 lakh for repeated offense. The ministry stated that the bill will be forwarded within 45 days.
