Himachal Pradesh HRTC Bus Accident On Mandi-Shimla Highway, A Dozen People Injured

A bus on its way to Shimla met with an accident this morning. Among the travelers, four people were critically injured, and eight passengers were suffering from minor injuries. The bus rolled down about 25-ft off the road. However, this happened after a portion of the Mandi-Shimla highway caved in at Kangu in the Sundernagar subdivision of Mandi district.

Himachal Road Transport Corporation shared that the bus was traveling from Sundernagar unit to Shimla. The cause of the accident was road damage in the Mandi district. It is reported that the injured passages have been sent to the hospital for treatment. Further updates on the accident are awaited. Also, 252 people have died in the state since the onset of monsoon this season. Out of which, 107 passed away in road accidents.

 

Concerned Authorities’ Take

Police said that the Shimla-Kalka road on the national highway-5 (NH-5) was shut after a landslide in the Solan district in the early hours of Friday. The revenue and horticulture minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jagat Singh Negi, added over 200 roads are still closed, and restoration is underway. He also said that the road opened on Thursday after one week.

Yesterday, the regional meteorological department in Shimla issued a yellow alert. Moreover, it stated that light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms will likely occur in parts of Himachal Pradesh. Further, reacting to the accident, Mr. Negi said,

“Last night, due to heavy rainfall, Kalka-Shimla road was also blocked; restoration is underway so far it has been opened for light vehicles. There are over 200 roads closed in the state and restoration is underway, over 200 electricity supply schemes are also chamfered. Our teams and officers are in the field.”

In conclusion, Himachal Pradesh is not a safe place to travel right now. Natural calamities like monsoons and landslides are becoming the reason for the death of hundreds of people.
