Who Was Sean Dawkins?
Sean Dawkins was a consensus All-American as a junior in 1992. He was further selected 16th in the 1993 NFL draft. Sean was introduced to the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. A former teammate Dave Barr said, “His talent was undeniable.”
Dawkins grew up in the Bay Area community of Sunnyvale. He caught 120 passes for 2,028 yards with 31 touchdowns during his three seasons with the Bears. Further, Sean’s career TD total and his single-season mark of 14 in 1992 both remain cal records. He was a significant threat to Pawlawski (1990-91) and Barr (1992). Pawlawski said, “As soon as he stepped on campus, everybody knew. He was not red-shirting. He was so talented.”
Barr recalled, “We played waffle ball at the house,” “He smiled and laughed a lot.” Moreover, in the mid-2000s, Barr moved to the Sacramento area. He walked into a church service only to find Dawkins serving as an Usher. Furthermore, Dawkins played his first five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He played one season with the New Orleans Saints, Two with the Seattle Seahawks, and closed his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2001. Dawkins had a historic career in the game.
How Did Sean Dawkins Die?
Seal Dawkins lived in the South Bay. He lived there with his wife, Sachi, and their three children—Twin boys Luke, Kam, and daughter, Ella. According to the Cal Athletics news, Dawkins passed away due to a cardiac arrest.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Ray. She died at 53 after fighting a long battle with cancer in 1999.
