The 5th Test between India vs England has been canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak within the India squad. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Friday that the match had been canceled. ECB said in a statement,
“Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team.
We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many.”
On Twitter, England cricket said,
“Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India Men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled.”
India’s assistant physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar tested COVID-19 positive on Wednesday. Entire India’s squad has tested negative on Thursday. However, due to the rise in COVID-19 fears, the fifth and final test between India and England has been postponed indefinitely.
India was ahead in the series 2-1. Though England cannot win the series, they could have definitely Draw it. BCCI is yet to comment on the matter. It is understood that the players and both cricket boards suspect another case emerging from this round of tests. It has been reported that the BCCI told the ECB that India would struggle to put out a playing XI for the fifth Test. The match was to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester, from September 10 to 14. The 5th Test may be played on a later date, probably in July 2022, when India has to tour England for ODIs and T20Is. As of now, it is an unforgettable end to an unbelievable Test series between India vs England.
