Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu is from India. She has won many medals at the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships. Mirabai received the Padma Shri from the Indian government for her contribution to the sport. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, a sporting honor, was also given to her by the Indian government in 2018. In the Women’s 49kg final, Chanu lifted 201 kg in total to win the gold medal. On Saturday, it happened at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She increased India’s medal total with this addition. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she took home the silver medal in the Women’s 49 kg division.

 

2. Achinta Sheuli: Gold

Indian weightlifter Achinta Sheuli competes in the 73 kg weight category. He took the silver medal at the 2021 Junior World Weightlifting Championships. Additionally, he is a two-time Commonwealth Championships gold medalist. Achinta also mirrors a champion of the men’s weightlifting contest at the Commonwealth Games in every way. In the men’s 73 kg category at Birmingham on Sunday night, the 20-year-old West Bengali athlete brought home the gold. His winning lift was 313 kg (143 kg for the snatch and 170 kg for the clean and jerk).

 

3. Sanket Sargar: Gold

Weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar won Gold in CWG 2022. He is the men’s 55 kg weight class record holder for the National and Commonwealth. At the current Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Sanket became the first Indian to win a medal. On the second day of the quadrennial competition, he won a silver medal in weightlifting. In the men’s 55kg weightlifting final, Sargar came second to Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan. Aniq lifted 249 kg overall compared to Sargar’s 248.

 

4. Jeremy Lalrinnunga: Gold

Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga hails from Aizawl, Mizoram. He also competed for India at the Buenos Aires Summer Youth Olympics in 2018. As a result, he brought home the country’s first gold medal in the Youth Olympics. Additionally, a silver medal was earned by Jeremy in the Asian weightlifting championship. Furthermore, Jeremy got home a gold medal in the men’s 67kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

By lifting 140 kg, he set a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch event. In the clean and jerk segment, he raised a total of 160 kg, bringing his total weight lifted to 300 kg. This is also a new CWG record. Jeremy seemed injured at the end of his final 165kg attempt, which he failed to complete. He is cooperating closely with the Indian coaches.

 

5. Bindyarani Devi: Silver

Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam participates in the 55 kg weight division. She has also won several medals in the previous years at various Championships. At the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships, she also took home the gold in the clean and jerk. Also, as India continues to win medals at the Commonwealth Games this year, Bindyarani won silver in the women’s 55 kg competition. She lifted 202 kg in total (86 kg + 116 kg) to finish second on Saturday.

 

6. Gururaja Poojary: Bronze

Weightlifter Gururaja Poojary is from India. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, he took the silver medal in the men’s 56 kg division. Additionally, he won a bronze medal in the men’s 61-kg final on Saturday at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022. Poojary accomplished a combined lift of 269 kg (118kg in snatch and 151kg in clean and jerk).

The best players for India so far at the 2022 Commonwealth Games have been weightlifters. However, we are too excited for many more medals to arrive.
