Now, passengers can book the tickets only 60 days in advance. Earlier, it was 120 days of the booking period. The reservation period is exclusive of the day of departure of the train. This rule will come into effect from November 1, 2024. It will impact many passengers who have already booked their tickets.
New Indian Railways Rules For Advance Booking
The reservation from 120 to 60 days has been considered because of various factors, such as people being able to plan, spontaneous travel, accurate itinerary, better planning, adaptability to changes in demand, responding to events, reducing cancellation, and no-shows, besides better passenger flow. They said that touts were taking advantage of long advance ticket booking periods.
- Advance Reservation Period will be 60 days, and booking will be done. Accordingly, it will come into effect on November 1, 2024. However, all bookings made up to 31-10-2024 under the reservation period of 120 days will remain Intact.
- Cancellation of the booking made beyond the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) of 60 days will be permitted.
- Considering that express trains like Gomti Express, etc., would have a low time limit for reservation, there will be no change in certain time cases. There will be no change in the case of a limit of 365 days for foreign tourists as well.
Indian Railways Is Developing AI To Enhance System
Meanwhile, the Indian railway is also developing AI to enhance its system and processes. The organization is implementing AI-enabled cameras for monitoring linen and food quality, and now it will deploy an AI model to optimize strain occupancy. According to Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, the AI model will be introduced for checking. The occupancy of trains had led to over 30% increase in confirmed ticket rates.
The AI model will work to predict the data and seat availability hours before the train departure after the reservation chart is prepared. This will help the system to allocate seats to the passengers on the waiting list more efficiently. In addition to improving the sitting allocation, the Indian railway has stated that they have implemented AI-based cameras in the kitchen to monitor cleanliness and detect abnormal behavior.
