The passion our athletes put in to reach where they are right now is no myth. India as a country must promote more sports than education as it is due to events like these the country gets recognition. Winning five medals have really made us as Indians more proud than ever.
DAY 1
Spectators on Day 1 saw the Indian flag being hoisted twice as Meerabai Chanu and P Gururaja respectively won Gold and Silver medals under the weightlifting category. On the other hand, things weren’t working out too well for the women’s hockey team. They suffered a narrow 2-3 loss to Wales.
Pakistan badminton team saw complete annihilation after suffering a 5 – 0 loss to India in the first round.’
DAY 2
An 18yr old from the Shadipur Haryana managed to bad India’s second gold medal. Sanjita Chanu, claimed the gold medal in the women’s 53kg event. She pulled off a combined 192 kg’s (84 kg snitch and 108 kg clean and jerk) breaking the previous CWG record.
A few hours later Deepak Lather also secured the bronze medal for the men’s 69kg event becoming the youngest weightlifter to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games.
DAY 3
Day 3 started off with India seeing a gold in the men’s 77kg category. Satish Kumar Shivalingam lifted a combined effort of 317 kg won the Gold medal for the same. The last time in Glasgow he won the gold for weightlifting, making him the only Indian man to win back to back medals in the commonwealth games. This is India’s 41st Gold medal in 84 years of wrestling.
In other news, India had a sad yet dominating hockey match against Pakistan. Having a lead of 2-1 the entire game, India somehow managed to let Pakistan score thereby ending it in a draw (2-2).
