Zimbabwe was never a winner of the tournament, but it was a tough competitor in the old days. However, now the team does not play that much great cricket, so they failed to qualify this time. This is the first time since 1983 in 36 years that Zimbabwe missed the Cricket World Cup tournament 2019.

The World Cup tournament hosts India, and the World’s top seven other cricket teams automatically qualified for the World Cup. However, the rest of the teams had to go through qualifiers to get a place in the World Cup. West Indies and Zimbabwe failed to qualify, and Sri Lanka and Netherlands qualified for the World Cup.

This forced match officials to officially abandon the game and gave victory to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka went on to win the World Cup in 1996, defeating Australia in the Final.
