During the third ODI encounter between India and the West Indies on Tuesday (August 1) at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan coincidently replied to former opening batter Aakash Chopra. The event happened while West Indies hitters were lined up to bat in the second inning of the game. By taking off his bails, Ishan attempted to stump out a West Indies batter, but the batter survived. To know what happened, keep reading.
Ishan Kishan: The Indian Keeper-Batter
Ishan Kishan, a young Indian keeper-batter, is enjoying the current West Indies tour. He struck fifty in each of the three games of the recent ODI series against the West Indies, which helped the Indian cricket team to victory.
Ishan got his first Player of the Series award as a result of his outstanding performance in the series. He amassed a total of 184 runs during the course of the series, with a best of 77 runs at an average of 61.33 and a strike rate of 111.51, making him the series’ top run scorer.
With his half-century in the third and last ODI game at the Brain Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, he joined a select club that included MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Dilip Vengsarkar. Kishan is the most recent Player to score half-centuries in every game of the series.
The Epic Moment
Although Ishan is from Ranchi, he is not named MS Dhoni, according to Chopra, who was commentating for Jio Cinema at the time alongside former bowler RP Singh. Chopra made this statement after watching the delivery’s replay. Aakash made the remark in regard to MSD’s speedy job behind the wickets. Ishan responded to Chopra’s analysis with an incredible one-liner, which caused RP and fellow commentator Nikhil Chopra to start laughing. Aakash Chopra on air said,
“Bahut rare hota hai ki aap vo stumping ya run-out ke dismissal ko review kare. Pair abhi to mujhe zameen par dikh raha hai waise (replay of the delivery). Dekhiye aap aate Ranchi se hai Ishan, lekin aapka naam Mahendra Singh Dhoni nahi hai.”
Ishan’s Response
Coincidentally, just as Aakash Chopra completed his sentence, Kishan was heard on the stump mic saying,
“Han phir theek hain “
Although he appeared to be replying to Chopra’s statement, it was just a perfectly timed incident that has gone viral online. Ishan’s reaction was soon made known to Chopra, who then added,
“Ishan ne jawab bhi diya hai dekho. How sweet Ishan, we love you.”
The stumper retorted, “Haa phir theek hai,” and the other person agreed. Aakash posted a video of this epic moment on his social media accounts with the description, “We love you, Ishan @officialjiocinema #forthelaughs #fun #commentary #jiocinema.”
