Kajal Singh is the first ever Indian graffiti artist. Born in Delhi, Kajal Singh lives in Berlin but now she has returned to her hometown.
Why Kajal Singh Chose Graffiti Art
In an interview with Delhi Bhaskar, Kajal was asked, why she chose graffiti art. Kajal replied,” I am a hip-hop dancer and I studied the four elements of hip-hop which were break-dance, graffiti, DJ and rapping and graffiti art fascinated me the most. I started to share my art on a social platform and in I clinched an Indo-German project in 2012.
She Received First Ever Female Graffiti Artist Award
Recently, she received the first ever female graffiti artist award from the President. She was asked about how she felt after receiving the honor. She said,” I have gained recognition in several countries. I have received the award in Germany back in 2015. Moreover, I was honored by the Trinity College in the USA. But the pleasantness of receiving the award in own country is completely different.
Problems She Faced While Learning This Art
She said,” I had interest in painting since an early age. But doing the can painting was a whole new experience. But my family supported me all the time.”
She Left Her Education For Art
Talking about her education, she said,” now I am working in the field of art so I will get a degree in arts”.
She Wants To Connect People With This Art
She said that she wants to promote the art, even at the remote places or the places which have no internet facility. Now, this art has gained recognition internationally.
What Is Graffiti Art?
She told that it is an element of Hip Hop. Back the time when street dancing was taking shape, the dancers would paint the walls and that gave birth to this new art.
She Is Also Known As Dizy-1
In the field of graffiti arts, Kajal is known as Dizy-1. She told that all the artists change their name in this field. To illustrate, her brother uses the name “comet”.
