Lia is having a great year because she recently enrolled in the Williams Driver Academy, where she will be racing for the ART Grand Prix team in the 2024 F1 Academy season.

Journey To Motorsport

At age five, Lia started go-karting for enjoyment. By the time she was eleven, she had made the switch to off-road racing. She started expressing interest in racing on her own after touring the globe with her father Ken Block, one of the most well-known racers. As she spoke with Dailymail,

“My dad always opened the doors for me, but never forced me to do anything. So I went off and tried every other sport I could, but eventually made it back to [motorsport] when I was about 10 or 11. So I think that made me want it even more because I had tried all these different things, but coming back to motorsport was truly like I knew what I wanted to do.”

Lia’s father, Ken Block, co-founded DC Shoes and drove professionally in rallies for the Hoonigan Racing Division. He was the one who first introduced Lisa to this line of work and served as his motivation for the motorsport competition.

From Rally Champion To F1

At the age of 16, Lia won the American Rally Association Championship because she had started rallying at the age of 15. Alongside her mother Lucy, she has also participated in the Baja 100 and climbed Pikes Peak. She has also competed in the Extreme E electric rallying series and the Nitrocross.

With Formula One establishing the F1 Academy, a female-only singer-seater racing competition, all eyes will be on this young driver to shine. She has achieved great success and gained a wealth of expertise in the off-roading arena, and she has now made the transition to open-wheelers.

Lia Block Shares Her Excitement

She expressed her excitement at the chance and remarked,

“I always grew up watching F1 with my dad and just, it was something kind of unknown to me that I never really got to experience. So, when the opportunity came about, it was just something I definitely couldn’t pass down, kind of like a lottery ticket. Just something I’ve always wanted to do but never had the opportunity.”

“He was truly my whole world and the only person I ever looked up to,” Lia stated after he passed. “No matter what I did he was always there to support me. I can’t believe how fast he was taken from all of us. No words can describe of how much of an amazing human my dad was, he lived so many lives, accomplished more in 55 years than most people could in 10 lifetimes, and lived his life to the absolute fullest every single day.”
