List Of India’s Top 10 Least-Favorite Dishes As Per Tasteatlas: Upma, Malpua, And More

An interactive online travel guide dedicated to traditional cuisine, TasteAtlas published a list of India’s worst dishes and beverages. Further, many Indian food enthusiasts are not too pleased with it. Even though, depending on geography and location, most Indian cuisines have large fan bases, Indian chefs were quick to take issue with the ranking. Not every food listed on Tasteatlas’ list deserves to be there, although taste is a personal experience and cannot be universally applied. Check out the top ten dishes with the lowest ratings if you’re still not sure.

India’s Least-Favorite Dishes

You might be surprised by the lowest-rated dishes. With a 2.7 out of 5 star rating, Jal Jeera is ranked highest on this list. The remaining dishes include Gajak, panta bhat, aloo baingan, Thandai, achappam (a Kerala cookie), Mirchi ka Salan, Malpua, and Upma. Thengai sadam is South Indian coconut rice which is also on the list.

People Are Rattled By The List

Indians argue that TasteAtlas’ evaluations of  India’s least favorable dishes are inaccurate in reflecting regional variances and individual tastes. Some people think Indians should be invited to assess these foods since they feel the list is biased. Others argue that Achappam and mirch ka Salan shouldn’t have been included on the list. The inclusion of Aloo Baingan on TasteAtlas’ list of “worst-rated foods in the world” earlier this year has generated controversy. The argument emphasizes how crucial it is to get Indians to rank these foods.

Former Rashtrapati Bhavan chef Montu Saini expressed his “complete disagreement” and disapproval of the list, describing it as “far away from reality.” “What was the sample size considered to draw such an outcome? Who all voted? How many of them were vegetarian/non-vegetarian? I disagree with this outcome. You can’t generalize with this,” Saini remarked.

“Who is the uncivilized barbarian rating this?🙄”, a user wrote. While the other was disappointed over the insult, “Why such dichotomy against the food from the west & peninsular India? Pithala Bhakri, Khandvi, NeerDosa, Rasam, Avaial, etc just to name a few.. healthier than those kulchas and naan! Such an insult!”

“Who the hell is rating this, disgraceful and pathetic.”, another user wrote.

Mango lassi is a delicious summertime staple that TasteAtlas has named the finest Indian food, and we wholeheartedly concur. In second and third place, respectively, are the soft, delicious butter garlic naan and the everyday favorite chai masala. Fourth and fifth place goes to butter chicken and Amritsari kulcha. Hyderabadi biryani ranks sixth, shahi paneer ranks seventh, chole bhature ranks eighth, tandoori chicken ranks ninth, and korma ranks tenth. All of these dishes are worthy of their places in the top 10.
