It is now the Moon’s turn to experience an eclipse, a little over two weeks after its shadowy figure crossed in front of the sun over portions of the Pacific Ocean, New Guinea, and the Indian Ocean.

Those interested in stars in India will be able to watch the Lunar Eclipse in 2023, which will take place on May 5. This will be what we call Penumbral Lunar Eclipse.

What Is Penumbra?

On May 5, Moonmoon nearly totally disappears beneath the Earth’s shadow, sampling only the penumbra, the shadow’s outermost region. The penumbra is not only light in color, but it also gets lighter as it moves farther from the umbra, the shadow’s black center region. Consequently, this occurrence is known as a penumbral lunar eclipse.

If the sky is clear, lunar eclipses can be seen from everywhere on the night side of the Earth, according to timeanddate.com. However, since the eclipse on May 5 is a penumbral one, observers should be aware that it requires keen vision and close attention to understand.

A penumbral eclipse, as defined by NASA, occurs when MoonMoon passes through the Earth’s penumbra or the flimsy outer region of its shadow. It may be challenging to notice Moon’son’s somewhat dimmer. Therefore, if you don’t know when a penumbral eclipse is occurring, you could miss it. Asia, Australia, Africa, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and Antarctica will all see at least some of the penumbral eclipse on May 5.
