The three-time Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar (1955-2019) lost the protracted battle with pancreatic cancer and died on Sunday. The leader was fighting was suffering from the life-threatening pancreatic ailment for the past one year. The 63-year-old Chief Minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar is known to be the ‘CM of Commons’. Below are the things you should know about Manohar Parrikar.
1. Born Into A Middle-Class Family
Manohar Parrikar was born in a middle-class family. His Political career began as an RSS Pracharak. Even after completing his Engineering from IIT-Bombay, he continued working for the Sangh.
2. Educated Leader
He was the country’s first Indian Institute of Technology Alumnus to serve as Chief Minister of a State. For your information, Arvind Kejriwal is the other.
3. Very Simple Lifestyle
Even though Manohar Parrikar was a chief minister, but he lived a very simple lifestyle. He lived in his own house and instead of a fancier SUV, he used the Innova car which he was allotted as leader of the opposition. Once when he needs to go to a meeting at a five-star hotel, his car was not working. He went in a taxi in a very simple dress along with chappal. The security guard stopped him as he was not believing that he is the Chief Minister of the state. He used to travel in rickshaws and other public transport like a common man when outside Goa.
4. Dedicated Leader
Manohar Parrikar was a dedicated Leader. Even at 62, the Goa CM was known for working 16-18 hours every day. Most of you might have seen him working with the nasal cannula device.
