Another Similar Incident
A tragic incident occurred in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district last week. A female pilgrim on her way back from Hemkund Sahib became stuck in an avalanche. Her body was eventually discovered beneath a glacier. Fortunately, five other pilgrims who were with her were rescued after being caught in an avalanche near Atalkoti on Sunday evening.
The victims were two families from Amritsar who had visited the Himalayan gurudwara and were descending on foot. The husband, two daughters, and another couple were successfully rescued by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). However, they were unable to locate Kamaljit Kaur (37).
On Monday morning, the search resumed, and SDRF personnel eventually recovered Kaur’s body from beneath a glacier. The avalanche was caused by the sinking of a glacier that was 100 feet long and 25 feet wide.
