Finally, after two days of washed out, we had a game today. This is the first time happened in the World Cup that three games are washed out. Today there was match 17 of the World Cup and it was between Australia and Pakistan. Pakistan lost the match by 41 runs. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first. Watch the key moments of the match.

 

1. Australia’s Aggressive Start

Australia started positively. The openers Aaron Finch and David Warner were watchful during the start and once they settled, they started scoring quickly. Warner and Finch gave the solid foundation to the team with 146 run partnership. Aaron Finch was the first to fall. He scored 82 runs in 84 balls with 4 sixes.

 

2. Middle Order Collapse

At one point, Australia was heading for 375+ score. But, after Aaron Finch got out, David Warner stood tall at one end, but the wickets were kept on falling from the other. Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Usman Khawaja all got a start but unable to score big.

David Warner hit a century and scored 107 in 111 balls. Australia lost the last 8 wickets in just 84 runs. From 223/2 to bowled out at 307.

For Pakistan, it was Mohammad Amir who took the fifer along with Shaheen Afridi who settled with a couple. Mohammad Amir gave 30 runs in his 10 overs with 2 maidens and 5 wickets. It was one of the best bowling performance of this year’s World Cup.

 

3. Pakistan Poor Start

Pakistan started poorly. Fakhar Zaman, their opener got out on a duck. Babar Azam along with Imam-ul-Haq tried to steady the ship for Pakistan. Both took the score of Pakistan to 56. When they both were looking comfortable at the crease, Nathan Coulter Nile strikes and sent Babar Azam to pavilion on 30. Mohammad Hafeez along with Imam played positively and Pakistan raced to the score of 136. Imam-ul-Haq scored a half-century.

After Imam got out, the middle order of Pakistan collapsed. Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali and Mohammad Hafeez got out quickly and from 136/2 Pakistan collapsed to 160/6. Pakistani bowlers handly contribution with the bat took the game closer for Pakistan. But the task was too much. Wahab Riaz and Hasan Ali played a cameo of 45 and 32 respectively. But it was not enough as Pakistan lost the match by 41 runs.

Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia as he took 3 wickets. Mitchell Starc and Kane Richardson took 2 wickets each. Nathan Coulter Nile and Aaron Finch settled with 1 wicket each.

 

4. David Warner – Man Of The Match

For his amazing innings of 107, David Warner was declared as the Man of the Match at Match 17 of the World Cup. Australia won the match comfortably by 41 runs.

Tomorrow we have India playing against New Zealand on June 13, at Trentbridge, Nottingham. New Zealand has won 3 matches in a row in this World Cup and is still undefeated. India is also undefeated so far in this World Cup. Australia will play their next against Sri Lanka on June 15, at The Oval, London. Pakistan will play their next match against India on Sunday, June 16 at Manchester.
